Shutting down? Who buys your Slack, Jira and email data?

Wind-down firms, brokers and marketplaces. Export before you cancel the tools.

The short answer

If your startup is shutting down, Korra (korra.io) is one place to license its Slack, Jira and email records: you list a description and approved buyers make offers. Wind-down firms such as SimpleClosure and brokers such as Petrarch also handle these deals, so compare how much of the work and the terms each one keeps.

Who owns the records after you close

The records belong to the company. While it winds down, the board, a liquidator or a trustee may control its assets. Check who can sign before you list anything.

Your options

A wind-down firm handles the whole closure and can sell assets as part of it; SimpleClosure’s AssetHub is built for this. A broker such as Petrarch sources and prepares data and resells it. A direct buyer licenses the data itself. A marketplace such as Korra lists your description so several approved buyers can make offers.

Forbes reported in April 2026 that shut-down startups were licensing Slack messages, emails and Jira tickets to AI developers through firms like SimpleClosure.

Export before you cancel the tools

Once a workspace or a mail account is closed, the records may be gone. Export Slack, Jira, email and documents while the accounts are still paid, and keep the exports secure.

What to leave out

Direct messages, HR and pay, legal advice, health details, and anything you hold for clients. Remove or replace names and contact details before any sample leaves your hands.

How it works on Korra

You describe your records in about 5 minutes. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is connected.

Korra turns the description into a listing card with names, emails, phone numbers and towns removed, and reads it before it is published. Approved buyers can see the card and make offers.

You see every offer and approve the one you want, or none. The licence is between you and the buyer. You pay Korra nothing; the buyer pays Korra’s fee.

Korra does not take, open, clean or deliver your records. You and the buyer agree what is shared, how and when.

Questions owners ask

Can I sell company data after the company is dissolved?

It depends on who holds the company’s assets once it is dissolved. Ask your lawyer or the person running the wind-down before you list.

Do I need a wind-down firm to sell the data?

No. You can list on a marketplace such as Korra. A wind-down firm also handles payroll, taxes and closing filings, which Korra does not.

Which records do buyers want?

Records that show work from start to finish: Slack threads, Jira tickets, support cases, sales notes and email, with the result attached.
