Operational workflows

Workflow records can connect a starting request to the approvals, handoffs, checks, and final state that complete a task.

A complete task has context.

Illustrative example

The request

A shipment cannot use its planned route after a capacity change.

The work

The coordinator checks approved alternatives, records the constraints, and gets the required approval.

The result

The revised route is released, with its approval and delivery status recorded.

A buyer might build task scenarios or study planning and execution. A procedure alone may not show what happened when it was applied.

What to inventory

Task histories, approval records, exception logs, project activity, and documented checks.

  • Ordered steps tied to a single task
  • The relevant rules, inputs, and role permissions
  • Approvals, exceptions, and observed final states

What to review

  • Are the records actual task histories or only proposed procedures?
  • Which steps refer to systems, people, or sources outside the approved scope?
  • Can a buyer identify failed attempts and unresolved exceptions?
